sssshhhh

tread quietly and follow me
I have a treat that you may see
if you believe in secret things
little folk with tiny wings
in trees that reach toward the sky
sitting in the branches high
or from their houses peeping out
whenever good folks are about

now children, here’s the strangest thing
they weren’t here when I moved in
but very soon beneath this tree
where bland bare soil used to be
terraced walls began to grow
and pretty flowers made a show
chairs appeared beneath these roots
and clothes, and little fairy boots

I tried to help them all I could
with useful gifts and dryest wood
for fire to keep them warm at night
in their homes tucked out of sight
I know that these sweet souls so free
had sought me out to comfort me
and if your hearts are kind and true
they’ll surely do the same for you.

The Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge rules require you to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or simply a short paragraph – it’s entirely up to you.

Then each day, nominate another blogger to carry on this challenge.

Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. Today, I’m inviting Meredith of Meredith’s Musings to join the challenge.

    1. Thank you. If I was doing the whole season I’d probably recite it to the children as I was taking them to the fairy glen which I made last year.
I wish I had put a couple of fairies beside the tree, but the day I took that photo I was feeling discouraged, because some boys had smashed up my fairy garden and I had only just hurriedly reconstructed it. It was better the first time round.
That only happened once. Most of the children who stayed were little angels.

        1. If I have the time, but I don’t know whether my replacement will be interested in keeping the fairies alive. The guy who owns the site puts complete faith in his wardens, and the way the campsite is run depends on the interests of said warden.

        1. They’ve become quite naughty.! One of them, and I think it must have been Hazel, (because Oak is far too sensible, Birch isn’t brave enough, and Willow is always dreaming) crept over to my laptop when i was in the kitchen making coffee, and wrote that. I wouldn’t dream of leaving them in a carrier bag!

  1. Oh, Jane this took me back about 11 year’s when my granddaughter’s were building fairy houses in the woods behind their home. I love the poem. Well, I don’t believe I’ve ever read one I didn’t love; no, never.
