The Wall

.

I thought that I had built a wall, but maybe it built me.
I reckoned I’d erected it from pure tranquility,
but it was fake and now it just illuminates the pain.
If I can’t climb around it, I may never write again.

~o~

The wall within my fantasy was built from pretty thoughts;
all sorts of handsome ramblings my idle mind had wrought,
re-arranged and written down, in designer verse with rhyme;
fond tales of winter madness, and dancing summertime.

~o~

The words stretched out like daisy chains across my living room,
I heaped them up in courses, to shield me from the gloom.
Each inch of clever phrasing became a brick in the wall.
Like blinds, they hid the daylight, and brought me to my fall.

~o~

I falsely thought I’d built a wall, but maybe it built me.
I reckoned I’d erected it from pure tranquility,
but it was fake and now it just illuminates the pain.
I have to beg my brighter self to let me write again.

~o~

I must have written this at some point over the past couple of months. I‘m feeling better now,  but it seems a waste to leave it rotting in my documents.

  1. Welcome back Jane😍😍😍😍 it’s been a wonderful morning surprise to find your poem on the top of my WP page. This is what I call a good morning 😃😃. It’s 6:55am her in India. I overslept today. My alarm didn’t go off at 5:30. Rushing through things now. Love you. Keep writing and keep posting….

    1. Wish I was over there – where in India do you live? I feel much better now, although I’m doing everything in slow motion, and sleeping a lot. I’m well enough to return to my voluntary job tomorrow, and I plan to go to the gym on Friday. It’s so good to see your friendly, happy face in that tiny circle above your message. Love you too. It’s almost 2’00 am in the UK – past sensible bedtime. See you soon 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. My husband’s in the army… and right now we are in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. We move every two years. It great that you are returning back to your voluntary job and starting your gym again. My sister is a dentist. She also is in UK. We are only two sisters. I do miss her so much. She lives in Berkshire. Maiden Head. After husband’s retirement I plan to come there. Let’s see if I do, then I would live to meet you. Till then sending lots of love your way….😍😍😍🎄😚😚

        1. When does your husband plan to retire? It would be lovely if you visited England. I live in Barnstaple in Devon, which is about 300 kilometers away from Maidenhead along an easy route. I used to go to London for the day, on a wholesale buying trip, once every three weeks, when I had a shop.
          How does your sister cope with our weather conditions after growing up in such a hot climate? Love you

              1. It happens… people here would die to settle in new Delhi but if it would not have been for my parents and in laws who refuse to move out of there then I would have maybe settled in Hyderabad, Goa, Assam or any small Hamlet where there is very low pollution, ample greenery and good weather. But now I’m codex to settle in New Delhi. A place I don’t like…

    1. Thanks Raili. I’m fighting fit – apart from my difficulty getting up in the mornings. I had a fantastic day in Oxfam today. I got more done than I have for a over a year. Maybe it helped that a load of 1950s-60s accessories came in – I love vintage – but I don’t think so.

      1. That’s sounding really good. I’ve never been a morning person, but you have had a lot on your plate, so it’s no wonder it takes a bit to get moving. Enjoy vintaging 🙂
