Greedy George

greedy

Gross!
Greedy
George gorges;
gulps gazpacho,
guzzles gingersnaps;
gives gargantuan groan…
gusts gigantic, gruesome gas…
gesticulates… grabs gut… goes green.
George gone! Graceless guests gawk, gasp, goggle,
Ghastly girlfriend gapes, gets giggles. Ghoulish.

I wrote this poem last night, for a contest which required  an etheree poem containing as much alliteration as possible. An etheree consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables.

To make sure I wasn’t outdone on the alliteration count, every word begins with G. I was quite pleased with the result.

When I tried to enter the contest, I was automatically  disqualified. The contest organiser had decreed that nobody who’d won a contest on that platform in the past 90 days was eligible. I think I’ve come 1st, 2nd or 3rd on that platform eight or nine times.

I thought I’d post it here instead.

    1. I chose the picture because it reminded me of Basil Temple Blackwood’s illustrations in Hillaire Belloc’s Cautionary Tales.
      It’s just a word game. You write down a load of words that begin with the same letter, and then see what you can do with them/ It’s like making a souffle – it’s not hard, but when you present it to your guests, everyone thinks you’re clever. Then they start eating it and realise that they’d rather have a steak 🙂

            1. Same here – except that these days I quick fry it, then throw in onions and mushrooms, turn the heat down, and let it simmer in its juices for an hour. I sometimes have to add a bit of liquid. People are horrified until they try it. It’s delicious.

      1. I am trying to be more aware of doing other things other than staying myself in my comfort zone of writing. And there are so many, many WRITERS out there, I am definitely making more of an effort to put their works out there too. (@–>–)

        1. That sounds great. I’m thinking I need to take a step back from constantly writing. My daughter has an allotment which she needs help with; I’m thinking of spending some time there.
