Written for Michelle’s Photo Challenge, this poem is designed to be uncomfortable and difficult to read, to cause visual distortion, and to shock, since the subject matter is horrific.

            1. It’s the same in this country. Social Services are under-resourced and the police – who are also underfunded – do what they can as they see it at ground level, but they don’t have the power to remove children. When something goes wrong there’s a public outcry and whichever social services team seems to be responsible has their heads on the block. Everybody forgets that the government is to blame.

              1. pollies wont pass simple practical laws to protect children, I sat on so many committees and one law change took 11 years to get through parliament and then they didn’t bother to pass the funding so it never actually came to fruition … now with mobile phones I pray that they can record that very first interview and use that in court as the child gives every minute detail in their own words and one cannot doubt their naked honesty but by the time it goes to court the child has told that story at least 30+ times and it’s lost it’s authenticity in the repetition .. and they have to stand in court facing the offender, which is just another form of abuse … 😦

                    1. absolutely NOT without their knowledge, kids today are totally familiar with tech stuff, utube, etc … when I was pushing this law change years ago it would have been a bulky video camera on a stand directly in front of them … NONE of our data can be truly protected so are you being sarcastic?

                    2. In the UK over the last few years reams of private data has been stolen or gone missing from government data bases… I’m not sure what the data protection act is intended to protect… government officials corrupt behaviour maybe… or their secret stash of brandy …. 😦
