Kintsugi.

I don’t possess a pedigree,
I’m a cross-breed of catch-me-if-you-can lunatics,
raging rebels and raving addicts.
Our abilities are widespread, ranging from
every aspect of art to maths, science
and agility. Sometimes we wear
our able hands and brilliant minds like a hat,
but when the wind blows,
the fractures in our brains become exposed.

We hold high ideals,
make plans, build beauty,
only to trip and smash it all
to smithereens.
On good days,
when we see the mess we have made
we pool our resources, pick up
the pieces and create
precious kintsugi.

.

Kintsugi, or β€œgolden joinery”, is the ancient art of restoring broken items with laquer, mixed or dusted with a precious metal, often creating something more beautiful than the original.

  1. Absolutely delightful, Jane! You should frame it with that picture (I still can’t get over that cake!) and give it to Laura. That would be so special! Stef gave me two maple leaves in a frame — one big, one small. One for each of us. I treasure that thing!

    1. That’s a great idea – except I’ve framed a few things for her lately. Dave must be getting sick of fixing hooks on the wall. I framed a couple of her wedding congrats cards, cos they left all the wedding stuff here when they went on honeymoon. πŸ™‚

I picked that photo because it’s her fave image of herself from the wedding…

    1. I can’t describe how it feels to see my daughter finally happy. she was never really happy before – not even as a child. Almost every day she sends me some exciting piece of good news. It’s incredible xx
