Self-imprisonment

I didn’t feel like getting dressed this morning, so I stayed in my rather handsome blue striped cotton pyjamas, then I remembered how, several weeks ago I silently pledged to do something different every day. I reckoned I hadn’t made any particular changes for a few days. I didn’t feel like tidying the bed, so I decided to abandon the habit of a lifetime and leave it as it was. In addition, I didn’t open the curtains and I didn’t shower. Altogether, these omissions amounted to four changes, and I reckoned that got me up to date.

I expected to feel liberated, but instead I feel imprisoned; I can’t go outside, because I’m not dressed and, anyway, I feel too grubby to face the world; and I don’t want to go in the bedroom to retrieve a book I left on the bedside cabinet, because I don’t want to see the unmade bed.

I’m beginning to suspect that today changes may not have been the right kind, and am wondering when I ceased to be a rebel.

Please excuse me for a few minutes – I’m off to make the bed, draw back the curtains, shower, and get dressed.

  1. It just goes to show that sometimes we make the wrong choices, I would have felt the same as you if I had chosen those things to do something different for a day.
    Have a nice week.

  2. Lol !! I had a pyjama day on the weekend too. Slept in till 10am *yawn* , lazy breakfast, shower (yes, I did, can’t not) made the bed (yes I did, can’t not) and got into my brand new flannelette PJ’s with pictures of Elmo from Sesame Street all over them. Then I read a whole book of the Sookie Skatehouse vampire series, which is not my usual type of read. But like a good soapie, I am now hooked and need to read them all !! It’s actually not gory and gruesome (much…) All in all, it was a good day…. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. To my surprise, yes 🙂 It’s well written, funny, quirky, not blood chillingly ghoulish. Makes even vampires (some) seem sort of loveable 🙂 And there’s others non-humanoid beings being introduced now I’m up to book 3 of 10, lol !! I’d probably put it more into the fantasy category or a grown up Harry Potterish thing.

            1. When you first mentioned that these books had been recommended to you I thought, Nah, no way are they going to be resonable, and wandered off to polish up my prejudices. It looks like I may owe the author an apology 🙂

              1. To be honest, I had very low expectations too. No one was more surprised than me ! Or is it I, to be grammatically correct …Her books have been turned into a TV serial or a movie I believe (True Blood) and she has written more books following individual characters’ lives because of reader demand. So there you go, you never know!

                  1. The author is Charlaine Harris – it’s the Sookie Stackhouse series. They all have the word ‘dead’ in the title. I’ve managed to get them through my local library. It seems it’s pretty popular as the books are all well thumbed!

  3. Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long)
so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say,
I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring
blogger however I’m still new to everything.
Have you got any points for novice blog writers?

    I’d certainly appreciate it.
